Marc & Judy Meyers' African Safari

To celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, Judy and I went on Safari to Nairobi, Kenya this past February.  We flew to 3 different camps and saw a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat including elephants, giraffes, zebras, both white and black rhinos, lions, leopards, cheetahs, baboons, hippos, a wide variety of antelopes, cape buffalos, and too many others to name.  The staffs at each camp treated us like royalty and the trip was an experience of a lifetime.  For those seeking a vacation unlike any other, we highly recommend it.

My favorite experience was being first on the scene just after a lioness took down a zebra.  She and her cubs had pretty much picked the carcass clean and were resting comfortably close to their kill.  As we closed in, our guide asked me if I wanted to get even closer to take some photos as he felt the lioness, although very protective of her cubs, would be relaxed as long as we didn’t make any sudden moves.  You can see via one of the accompanying pictures that we got within 7-8 feet of the lioness and I must have snapped 30 pictures until Judy, who was a bit nervous, asked if I thought I had taken enough shots and it was time to leave.  I seriously could hear the lioness panting and never in my life did I think I’d ever get so close to a lion in my lifetime.  Definitely an experience we’ll never forget.
