Congratulations to Jan Benson Greco on her retirement.

Our congratulations go to Jan on her retirement from a teaching career where she helped many, many handicapped children. I know that she will be missed and that her's will be difficult shoes to fill.

Jan taught from 1977 to 1992 at Oak Forest High School and was a department coordinator there.  Her students were severely and profoundly mentally impaired.  She also had physically handicapped students as well.  She began teaching at Carl Sandburg High School in 1992 and was there until her retirement on June 1st, 2007.  Her students at Sandburg were mentally and physically handicapped as well, but were included in regular education classes for a part of their day with a teacher's aide.  Jan coordinated their curriculum which was implemented by her aides.

Prior to her teaching career Jan was a research librarian for a chemical company, Liquid Carbonic Corporation for 9 years.  Although she enjoyed her job there, she realized how much she loved kids and that her real niche was in teaching.

Jan and husband, John plan to do lots of traveling now.  They have a 40 ft. diesel pusher motorhome.  From grade school till now, Jan has never been without a Boxer dog.  Her and John now have two rescued Boxers who will be accompanying them as they begin their travels this week.  They hope to see all of the United States before they stop.

Have a great trip, guys and again, Jan, congratulations on your retirement and new freedom!  You certainly deserve it.
